As with anything in life and business, sometimes things just don’t go the way you would have planned. There are a multitude of reasons, sometimes, financial, sometimes accidents, mistakes and all the other reasons.
It doesn’t mean you give up on your dream and pack it up.
It means you adapt and try again, from a different angle or even a completely different direction sometimes. This is completely normal and understandable and your social media strategies and content should be no different.
Plans and strategies don’t always work first time round but being able to adapt and move forward while learning from the experience is always going to make you and your business stronger and more resilient.
Some reasons we’ve seen decline in social media strategies are as follows:
Your social media values don’t really match.
What we mean by this more specifically is, your business values need to shine through on your social media platforms. The principal is to use social media for individuals to get to know your business a bit better and make them better understand what it is you are trying to achieve and why you are the best at what you do.
Too much shouting, not enough listening.
Many people see social media as a broadcast tool, which it can be but it’s like trying to use a hammer to eat a fried egg. It’ll work but it’s probably not the best tool for the job. We’ve said it time and time again, social media is best used for generating conversation or position yourself as the “go to guys” when your followers are looking for a product or service that you provide.
Not only in your content and timing but the frequency as well. All of these factors tie in to keeping your platforms interesting. There is unfortunately, no hard and fast rule for these, it is specific to your business and strategy but if you keep all of these in mind you can’t go too far wrong.
Not enough metrics.
We love metrics, simply because if you have any problem with anything, metrics will let you know where exactly the problem is and how best to mitigate it. The “fire and forget” mentality that surrounds social media has seen companies and individuals land themselves in hot water. The same for social media strategies but if you consistently checking your metrics you’ll always know your strengths and weaknesses and you’ll also know best, what works and what doesn’t.
Please don’t be disheartened if you feel like your social media strategies aren’t quite going to plan or you feel like it isn’t working. It takes time and patience occasionally but know that once you generate and gain followers they will inevitably become brand ambassadors.
If you are experiencing some tribulations with your social media strategies and implementations, we’d love to help. Please feel free to contact us here or on any of our social media platforms.
